Wildix vs Teams: which cloud communications solution is right for me?

Simon Edward • Oct 01, 2021

If you've been looking into VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services, you've no doubt heard the names Wildix and Microsoft Teams. In this post, we look at the benefits of each solution and help you determine which is best for your business. Hint: the answer might be "both".

Wildix vs Teams: which cloud communications solution is right for me?

It's the fight of the century. In the blue corner, Wildix - the trailblazer; the long-standing champ; the VoIP Vindicator. In the red corner, Microsoft Teams - the plucky young upstart who's already won legions of fans across the globe.

The bell sounds. The crowd goes silent, eagerly anticipating the first blow. Then...

Wait... are they shaking hands? And I think one of them just mentioned "Google Chrome integration"?

You get the gist. Boxing metaphors aside, we're often asked "should I choose Wildix or MS Teams?", and our answer is often "you might want to choose both".

Of course, your decision will rest on your unique needs and circumstances. But it's important to know that these titans of telephony aren't sworn enemies. In fact, when they work together, they can build on each other's strengths and form a powerful combo.

In other words, it's more "Batman and Robin" than "Superman vs Lex Luthor".

If you're considering moving your business communications into the cloud, read on to discover which system could be right for you. You might find that a little integration goes a long way.

Microsoft Teams: the jack of all trades

As far as cloud communication solutions go, Teams is still the new kid on the block. Microsoft launched the service in 2017, and in four short years, it has gained millions of users.

It's easy to see why. Teams offer an abundance of features. It allows for easy video meetings and cloud-based collaboration, all in one place. It can be customised with your own apps, chatbots and automated workflows. And, above all else, it offers an easy-to-use interface that's already familiar to many business users around the globe.

It's a jack of all trades and a master of many. But despite all its capabilities, it still has one major weakness - its voice functionality.

Microsoft Teams wasn't built for voice - it was built to do everything. So while you can make and receive calls with Teams, it lacks some features that are crucial to many businesses. For instance, it can't record calls and has limited call forwarding and reporting capabilities.

Don't get us wrong - we love Teams. After all,
it's one of the main VoIP phone services we install and maintain for businesses like yours. But with its limited voice features, it's a little like a magician who can make the Eiffel Tower disappear but can't shuffle a pack of cards.

As you may have guessed, that's where Wildix comes in...

Wildix: the voice and marketing megastar

Compared to Teams, Wildix is a seasoned veteran. It's been around for years, and like Teams, has garnered itself a hefty user base.

It also offers many of the same capabilities as Teams, like video conferencing, live chat, and joined-up communication across a wide range of devices.

Where it excels, though, is voice. Not only does it offer a robust VoIP service, but it unlocks many of the voice features that Teams lack, such as being able to forward calls to any phone (not just Teams users), and providing a centralised call reporting system.

Best of all,
Wildix is built on Web RTC. This is a complicated piece of technology that was probably created by wizards. However, it makes things VERY simple for end-users.

In short, Web RTC lets you chat, talk and video conference through your web browser, without having to download extra plugins or software. This means users can go straight from your "Contact Us" page to talking face-to-face with an advisor, with as little as a single click.

It's a world away from the stereotype of lengthy options menus and dreary hold music. And by making it easy to turn interest into action, you can snap up leads like never before.

We've been helping customers with cloud communication for years, and to us, it still feels like magic.

Teams and Wildix: a match made in digital heaven?

So we've seen some of the benefits of each solution. But what about using Teams and Wildix together? Surely you can't just slap one system on top of another?

Actually, Wildix has worked hard to ensure seamless integration with Teams. With help from our experienced engineers, you can quickly get both systems running in tandem.

Think of it like this. Wildix is the cake, providing a solid (and tasty) foundation for your business's voice communications and seamlessly replacing your current phone system. MS Teams is the icing, providing a familiar and easy-to-use interface, solid integration with Microsoft Windows, and lots of sprinkles.

Here are some more benefits of integration:

Take Wildix calls through Teams

  • Staff familiar with Microsoft's software can still use Teams, but the calls are handled invisibly through Wildix's robust VoIP service.

Enjoy a smooth transition

  • Wildix is quick to set up, allowing you to keep your existing call management and monitoring, and use the call reporting and recording functions that Teams lacks.

Get unlimited UK calls

  • Letting Wildix handle your voice calls means getting free unlimited calls to UK landlines and mobiles.

Better hardware support

  • Wildix works with a wide range of HD handsets, including walkabout phones, which aren't currently supported by Teams

The best of both worlds

  • Supercharge your productivity with Teams' unrivalled colleague-to-colleague collaboration, and boost your marketing with Wildix's seamless web browser integration

So which is best for me?

As we've seen, each system has its strengths, and there are benefits to using Teams and Wildix together. But every business is different, so it all depends on the individual needs of your enterprise.

For some businesses, a mix of both ticks all the boxes. For others, one technology may have clear benefits over the other. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. That's why we work hard to understand your business and suggest a solution that provides the best return on investment for you.

One thing's for sure, though - with the increase in home working, and the upcoming
ISDN switch off, there's never been a better time to invest in cloud communication.

What about support?

We get it. We're suggesting you could use two communications solutions in tandem, and we bet you're thinking "but what if something goes wrong? Do I have to call TWO support hotlines now?".

Don't worry, we're in it for the long haul. When you work with us, we don't just install and set up your phone system, we maintain it and offer ongoing support too.

Just think - instead of sending a live chat or being kept on hold for hours at a time, you can just call us. Like an intergalactic rescue team, our experienced support staff will spring into action to find the problem and sort it out.

We're dedicated to keeping Wildix and Teams online because we know you can't afford for your phone systems to go dark. That's why we keep our lines open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
